| Performing Arts, like a river should continue to flow through time and space reflecting the human spirit in its many manifestations.......... Bana Ramanath is the director of Natyanjali in San Antonio and Austin, Texas. Performing Arts has been a passion ever since her childhood. She has performed extensively in India as a student cultural delegate of the government. Performing arts became Bana's destiny and her journey began when the late Vidhwan M.C. Shekhar of Bangalore initiated her into the formal discipline of Bharata Natyam. Her training continued under the guidance of the Dhanajayans of Bharatakalanjali. She has received training in the technique of natuvangam from Guru Sri Adyar Lakshman. Bana began teaching dances of India in San Antonio, Texas upon requests and encouragment of a few enthusiastic students and parents. With two active toddlers at home and full time school, Natyanjali was conceived and born. Now, her toddlers have grown, and so has Natyanjali. She has been very successful in integrating Indian dance, music, and culture into the American mainstream through her work Temple Dance of India - A Universal Language. Bana has performed in many states of USA. In Texas she performs, teaches, and conducts workshops in colleges, universities, and special events. She actively collaborates with diversified professional dancers to promote traditional concepts with an innovative approach. She passionately explores spiritual and cultural concepts through the performing arts. Bana is an innovative choreographer and has choreographed dances to Indian and western themes conveying a message of unity in diversity. She has received financial awards from the city of San Antonio and the state of Texas to choreograph and present dance festivals and productions. Bana is trained in implementing Arts in Education and Arts Education in schools. She promotes the concept that dance appreciation begins with dance education. Bana is a dedicated teacher who trains students from all walks of life and various cultural backgrounds. Besides teaching at Natyanjali, she currently teaches Dances of India informal classes at the University of Texas in Austin.
